About Compliance & FinCrime
technology at Barclays

Banks face significant challenges to ensure
compliance with global regulations. Illegal activity
by employees and customers are rare, but increasingly
difficult to detect given the explosion of
transaction volumes, market data and communication
channels, and extremely damaging to the banks and to
society more generally when they occur.  Collusion,
insider-trading, front-running, money laundering,
terrorist financing, people-trafficking are just some
of the higher profile activities that Compliance and
Financial Crime functions in global banks have to
detect and prevent.

Barclays Compliance Technology department is
responsible for developing and maintaining the tools
to detect Financial Crime, market abuse and ensure
that the Bank remains compliant with regulations. We
are using Big Data tools to mine billions of data
points from multiple sources and advanced analytics
techniques to detect financial crime; we are using
computer led learning to enhance our surveillance
capabilities and we’re developing a rich suite of
end-user tools to allow employees across the all
Barclays business lines to communicate efficiently
with Compliance.
